Somewhere in the dark and nasty regions, where nobody goes, stands an ancient castle. Deep within this dank and uninviting place lives Berk, the overworked servant of the Thing Upstairs. But that's nothing compared to the horrors that lurk beneath the trapdoor. For there is always something down there, in the dark, waiting to come out...

Don't you open that trap door.
You’re a fool if you dare.
Stay away from that trap door.
Cos' there's somethin' down there.

In the dark and nasty regions where nobody goes, there is a dark and sinister castle, home to a terrifying, bossy monster known only as ‘The Thing Upstairs’. Also living in the castle is The Thing Upstairs’ servant, a friendly blue monster named Berk, who spends his time cooking ghastly-looking meals for his master, running its slime bath, tidying the castle and generally trying to keep his employer from getting violently grumpy. Berk is kept company by Drut, his pet spider, and his best friend, a talking skull named Boney, who spends most of his time either moaning about his lot in life or trying to warn Berk not to open a certain trap door in the floor of the kitchen. The only trouble is, Berk is not terribly bright, and he keeps forgetting that he really shouldn’t open that trap door – because whenever he does, something nasty, smelly, ferocious or just downright flipping ‘orrible emerges and causes him no end of trouble…

Created by Terry Brain and Charlie Mills, ‘The Trap Door’ is a ‘claymation’-style animated series voiced by comedic legend Willie Rushton. Each of the show’s forty five-minute episodes is filled with frantic escapades and comedy moments, which, combined with umpteen monsters of all shapes and sizes, and liberal doses of gunge and slime, has enabled it to become a cult favourite with children of all ages!
